I was told by my grandfather that if you are destined to hang you'll never drown. I have never been afraid of water . . .

  1. Wonderful photo, G! That telephone is in beautiful condition. I wonder whether that juke box works….

  2. Oh it did Ms Danica, right up to the day the diner went under. It was a grand place where friends and family met for breakfast and lunch … Yep a grand place indeed.

  3. Takes me back to eons ago in rural northwest Wisconsin when we had a party line. Had more people on it than the phone company knew. Families who couldn’t afford any sort of telephone line at all would climb the pole in the middle of the night & hook into our party line somehow. When the phone would ring at 2am, we always knew someone had been late getting up that pole. To our parents, it was annoying. To us kids, it was exciting. Naturally, we would try to listen in. 🙂 ~~Cyn

    • I never could get the hang of whose rings was whose … but my Grandmother knew the different rings in an instant. Plus only grown ups were allowed to answer … thanks for you kind comment.

  4. It is sad that a local diner with such a history and character loses its struggle. Great photograph, a slice of history.

    • It was a grand place, Ms inese … my Sweetheart, Cousin Gene and I would go there for breakfast or lunch, then return for what we called “Pie” which stood for dessert time, where they would eat a fudge brownie topped with a large mound of ice cream covered in fudge sauce, nuts, whipped creme and cherries. This was done all the while I ate a very small piece of no-sugar-added cherry pie unencumbered by any such wondrous adornments. It was indeed where family and friends gathered and shared the excitement of life. thanks for you generous comment.
