The Near Last Photograph …
Lying in my hospital bed after two heart attacks in a week, I thought of a blog post I wrote years ago. Of course, my train of thought was after they stopped pulling frightfully long tubes out of me and my male type paraphernalia (my gosh was that super duper hold scotch tape?). The post was about my speculating on the last photograph that I would take before I checked out of this life of mine. The electronic image would be waiting there on the card. Waiting … for someone to discover and hopefully realize the possible importance of their discovery. Mind … I did say possible.
What would be the last photograph on the memory card be of?
I would like to think the photograph would be an image worthy of great prestige, personal achievement in the face of daunting hardships or unbridled acclaim. In essence … a photograph for the ages. Yeah, that sounds good.
But that item of fantasy is quite a bit far fetched since bird photos, street portraits or small town landscapes don’t generally generate a lot of international notice or acclaim from the washed or unwashed masses. So, when I went from the hospital to the nursing home/rehab to finally my humble home, I had to see what my old faithful camera contained. I was quite interested in the memory card since I could not remember what had happened before and after my medical emergency.
Fortunately, my cameras had been gathered up by friends and family and stored for safety.
Well, the last photograph on the memory card was of Cousin Gene sitting on my couch with his computer, protesting my taking yet another of many unauthorized photographs of his personage. The photograph seems fitting since he was the one who found me unconscious on the livingroom floor and his heroic efforts saved my life.
The photograph remains special even if it is not the last photograph I will take during my independant photography career. It will remain special much like Cousin Gene. I cannot say or thank him enough for being a special friend and fellow co-conspirator in this life.

Next Week Or So … Something along the same line or something current …
