The Old Guy … Crafty-Curious-Able To Leap …

Crafty & Curious-And … .

I was caught off guard when Kat came to live with me. I greatly underestimated her. And even greatly doesn’t describe the length and depth of my ineptness. I was under the impression and thought she was a sweet little soft kitty that loved naps, playing with stuffed mice and looking outside at the birds from the back of the couch. Along with my scratched up legs, arms and hands … I am learning.

Twice I caught her up on the stove or at the kitchen sink and countertop. Scolding her didn’t seem to make an impression. I was lost to find a solution. Then one afternoon, she must have forgotten I was sitting at the kitchen table working on the computer. She jumped into the other kitchen chair, then jumped onto the small food preparation ledge in front of the microwave and was almost ready to jump onto the stove when I hollered at her. It’s not practical to move the microwave because I needed the ledge to stir food and the likes when cooking. Moving the chair into the back bedroom wasn’t a solution because I needed it for food prep. So, after thinking it over, the temporary fix was to block the ledge with a pizza box and a moist wipe container. I also  keep the chairs pushed up to the table when not in use. So far this temp fix has stopped further feline exploration of the sink, counter and stove top. It has not stopped the demand for explanations.

I was told by my grandfather that if you are destined to hang you'll never drown. I have never been afraid of water . . .

  2. -Ms Shelley … I have no delusions about staying ahead of her much less hold my own against her advancement in abilities. I find that at the rate she is progressing, the pizza box will be gone soon and upon further examination, I will be found to be the defiant one of the household. Yes me, the Old Guy sitting in the chair mumbling incoherently about “there was a time …”. Yes, the one who lost control to soft, cute, and cuddly. g

  3. Cats! They are adventurous, exceedingly clever and seem to outsmart us at every turn. I look forward to the next installment.

  4. I love reading about your adventures with Kat, though I’m sure her shenanigans are frustrating for you sometimes. If it helps any, the cats we’ve had over the years all settled down as they got a little older. She sure is adorable!

    • Ms Terri, she hasn’t settled down yet and remains full of energy and couriousity. Today I put the trash can in the back bedroom. Right now she’s all sweet and loving by playing with her toys and cloth shopping bag. I know she’s sandbagging me … I’m gonna get some rest for round three. Thanks for your omment.

      • My son just rescued a tiny kitten from the middle of the road a few days ago, and he’s probably going to be in the same situation you are soon.😄

      • That poor think Ms Terri, I rescued Kat from a (Kill) Shelter in the next county. I don’t know how long she was in the cage but fortunately, she adapted here really fast. I wish I could rescue them all. I hope he has good luck with the poor thing. g

  5. Oh man, I’m still laughing! She looks like trouble, and obviously is on to the ways of humans.
    I want pizza now too!

  6. Cats are really something. Most of the time they train us.

  7. John, keep a clean spray bottle filled with water nearby. After being sprayed a few times, Kat will get the message.

    • We went through that exercise earlier to day. I have one spray bottle in the kitchen and one next to my lazyboy in the livingroom. One problem I have is she is soooooo quick. Right now we have a truce. Especially now since it is nap time. Thanks for your generous comment. g
